Hon. Lady Justice Njoki Ndungu was appointed on 16th June, 2011 and assumed office on 26th August, 2011 as a Judge of the Supreme Court. She is the Chairperson of the Judiciary Employee Protection and Inclusion Committee (EPIC), Judiciary Committee on Elections (JCE) and, member of the Judiciary Leadership team. She holds the Supreme Court’s Engagement with the Electoral process and Governance and Regulatory Affairs Portfolio; heading the Rules and Publications Committees of the Court, and ensuring observance of the Court’s traditions and ceremonies. On 9 January 2026, she was elected unopposed as the Supreme Court Representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Prior to her appointment as Justice of the Supreme Court, she sat on the Committee of Experts on Constitutional Review that drafted the Constitution of Kenya 2010. She served as Member of the National Assembly of the 9thParliament, and the Pan-African Parliament (2003-2007). She was the Mover of the Sexual Offences Bill 2006, key amendments for legislative change including those on maternity and paternity leave, and affirmative action through the Political Parties Act 2007, which introduced measures to increase women’s participation in politics. She worked in various capacities internationally and nationally, including as State Counsel at Office of Attorney General (1989),National Protection Officer at United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) (1995), Women in Law & Development in Africa (1998), and as Political Analyst for the African Union formerly UOA (2000).

She was awarded the UN Person of the Year (Kenya), and ICJ (Kenya Section) – Jurist of the Year Award 2006, National Honours of Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), and Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS).

She holds a Masters in Law (LLM) in Human Rights & Civil Liberties (University of Leicester), Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (University of Nairobi), PostGraduate Diploma (Kenya School of Law) and Diploma Women Rights (WUS). She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
