Hon. Justice Isaac Lenaola was appointed on 27th October, 2016 and assumed office on 28th October, 2016 as a Judge of the Supreme Court. He heads the Supreme Court Judicial Function Operations, Bar-Bench Relations, Non-Domestic Courts and Information Communication Technology Portfolio.
Prior to his appointment, he was a Judge of the High Court of Kenya, and Judge and Deputy Principal Judge of the Court of First Instance of the East African Court of Justice (2011-2018). He is the President (2026) and Judge at the Residual Special Court for Sierra Leone (2013 to-date). He practiced law, served as a Commissioner in the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission (CKRC),and Member of the Tribunal Investigating the Conduct of Puisne Judges.
Hon. Justice Isaac Lenaola served as a Commissioner at the Judicial Service Commission. He is the President of the Advisory Council of the Strathmore Institute for Advanced Studies in International Criminal Justice; Judicial Action Group; and immediate past president of the International Association of Refugee and Migration Judges (IARMJ). He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and McLaughlin College, York University.
He was awarded the LSK Distinguished Service Award (2008); East African Law Society Honorary Membership Award (2015); Jurist of the Year ICJ-Kenya Chapter (2019); IARMJ Distinguished Service Awards (2014 and 2018); andNational Honours of the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS), and Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS).
He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nairobi, and Post-Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
